No-exam life insurance

Who gets approved quickly, what the process looks like, and what to expect if you don't.

Several carriers now offer rapid underwriting: for people within their age and coverage limits, they make decisions based on your application, pharmacy records, driving history and other available data, skipping the in-person medical exam. Approvals sometimes arrive within 24 hours. Every quote displayed here notes whether the carrier requires an exam, might ask for one, or has a no-exam path for that plan.

What it changes

Accelerated underwriting still means thorough verification of your answers. A policy issued based on false statements can be challenged within the first two years. If the carrier's records turn up questions, they can still request an exam or blood tests, and you get to choose whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Usually people younger than around 60 seeking coverage amounts within the carrier's fast-track limit, without significant health issues, and who haven't used tobacco for at least a year. Some carriers will substitute recent blood work from your doctor for a full exam if you can provide it.

Should the carrier require one, it's typically a 20 to 30 minute appointment with a nurse or technician who comes to your home or workplace here in Los Angeles; you pay nothing. For applicants in good health, the exam often leads to a better rate class, so it's sometimes a benefit rather than a burden.
